Today, September 14, 2021, is the publication day for Tolstoy Together: 85 Days of War and Peace with Yiyun Li.
Last spring, in the first stages of the pandemic, A Public Space began a social and literary experiment, engaging writer Yiyun Li to host a read- and tweet-along of Tolstoy’s War and Peace. I joined with hundreds who sought solace and consolation in a corporate reading and writing experience. The #TolstoyTogether experiment resulted in a community conversation about the book and the many ways to read it. Tolstoy Together offers host Yiyun Li’s reading journal alongside the twitter “marginalia” of those in the community, including Garth Greenwell, Elliott Holt, Carl Phillips, Tom Drury, Sara Majka, and Alexandra Schwartz! I’m very happy to have a selection of my responses included alongside these contributors!
